I am quite new to DnB production – only been in it for about 5 months, but in that time I have been working pretty hard to understand and improve.
My favorite artists are Kyrist, Visages, Submarine, Monty – stuff like that. I am looking to develop a style that is dark and grooving, with some heavy elements.
Really appreciate any feedback!

Well firstly for only 5 mnonths in you are putting together a much more coherent sound pallete than many do, so well done there. The layout and structure is working and bringing in new aspects and sounds works as the tune progresses. The second drop is great it really brings a new energy to the tune.
possible pointers
1. The aspect that would elevate the track the most would be the beats. Remembering the genre is DRUM & BASS. Those two aspects are pretty much all you need and they have to be strong. Making sure the beats cut through, have a groove and the fills and percussive aspects are audible and clean. Some rolling top end on these drums would bring a lot of energy to the tune as a whole.
A/B referncing will help a lot. For example Creatures tracks have incredible beats and drum mixes and seeing what you can learn from listening to them will help a lot.2. while there are lots of really nice ideas within here, perhaps zooming in on one key groove / idea and riding the hell out of it will work really well. Remember it’s dance music and its all about repetition, but with evolving aspects as it unfolds. Too many changes can pull people out of it.
Really great work on the mood, textures and general coherence. If this is you at 5 months, look for for you at 18 months! Keep at it 😀

Wow, thank you so much for the deep listen and detailed feedback. I do have a couple different top loops in there with different hats and things, but I think the clarity and coherence aren’t quite there. Not too sure if this is a sound selection or glue type of issue, probably a bit of both.
In my next tune I will really home in on making a solid starting groove and some really cool but subtle fills. I am just so stoked on making music right now, and getting this kind of feedback feeds the fire!

That’s exactly the right attitude when in the early stages of production, don’t get stuck on any one idea for too long, keep moving, begin again from the ground up with a new idea and everything you learned in the last one will serve to make a much better tune next time.
Keep moving, keep creating and thinking thinking thinking, how you can do things better each time. Really listening with honest ears between your favourite tunes and your latest mixes will help your brain figure out what you need to work on.
