GENIEDUBS 006 [OUT NOW!]
Those that follow the GENIEDUBS project will know what it’s about: showcasing the best of the music we hear from friends and members of the site: up and coming artists.
With the latest submission window we had such an amazing diversity of music sent in, we were able to put together 3 EP’s of music all representing a different aesthetic.
And so the ELEMENTS series begins….
Introducing Pt1: EARTH
We’ve been familiar with Evasion for many years now, and always enjoy his music. In these two tunes we think he’s really done some special things. The drum work and groove riding on COMPUTER TALK is as sublime as it is exciting. Massive nods to the past that we all love so much, but with a fresh mix and presentation.
Evasion wrote on the making of this tune:
” I sliced up multiple breaks for this one, not even sure how many but it’s probably the most complex drum break I’ve ever created in all honesty. Sample creation really made this track what it is above anything else – I removed a number of drum layers as I wanted it broken up not overdone…”
With his other track, CLOSER, we have a stunning and emotive piece of music that speaks strongly for itself. Influences can be tasted from all over, but some magical Sully & Burial-esque sentiment in there, we think. This tune already has support from Foreign Concept on his latest Critical Music Radio show on SWU FM, with Sam Binga & Hyroglifics,
The third tune on the EP, SHADOWS IN THE NIGHT is by an artist called MIEK, and he’s done a number on this. Tramen heavy, driving classic vibes. The FX and space age intro sounds bring the listener back into some golden times; but then waking them up with a jolt into 2021 mix-downs. Killer!
Rounding up proceedings nicely: we have another name we’ve been following for some time, Scartip, with his tune LETS NOT WASTE ANY. This one again has piqued the interest of some ears and it fits so well with the ethos of this EP – Classic breaks, resampled vocals and organic sounds.
Vintage vibe; swaggering gun finger business..!
