Greetings all…
Just as a quick heads up: we are not going to be holding production challenges in December or January, as in the new year we’ll be holding another demo send in š
As a quick note on that: we’ll be reducing the number of tracks that make the final folder down to 10 and there will be just one folder. So we are making the competition tighter and giving you more time to do it. Back to our quality over quantity ethos.
Hand in deadline will be the middle of February.
People in the industry DO listen to these so it really makes sense to send in your best work to stand the best chance of something awesome happening for you.
The quality seems to be improving all the time, so it will be really interesting to see what comes in this time around šMore details to follow!!

wicked, missed the last couple so I’m onboard this one. Any notable stories to share from previous times?

Well hard to get a full picture as we don’t know for sure exactly what’s been played out, but the demo’s go out to a wide range of top shelf artists and lots of them downloaded the demos. But we have had news and feedback on several of the tunes.
We do know previous tracks have been played by Kasra and the artist was put directly in touch with Kasra on Kasra’s request…
Quite a lot have been now played on Noisia radio too the guys have been really good with support.
We’ve had music signed in the past to an underground called Automate DnB. Monty also sent in a very early demo into one of our submissions, unclear what happened to that tune but shortly after that he blew up which is a great sign.
Ewol also sent in some music early in his career, a tune called ‘Amnesia’ which again Kasra was liking… He’s since gone on to become a well known name. We’ve also gone on to work with Fake as a result of the demo submissions and the monthly contests, and he was the last GenieDubs EP release with us – which got two track supported by Noisia for their show.
So plenty of activity!

Everything Sample Genie mentioned, plus as one of the main organizers of the challenges, I’ve seen them pull people out of the woodwork, allow people to connect and collaborate, create a spark of an idea for some people, and push some people to write music because there were deadlines to submit.
For myself, I have several projects swapped with one artist, I’ve got another collab that has been sitting with me for too long but I will be getting back on it (sorry for the hold up Freeman!), and I’ve created some sketches for challenges that I ended up finishing up, with one getting in the last demo round up. Some of the challenges have pushed me to try ideas and approaches outside of my usual too.
We’ve got a few challenge ideas ready for 2020, and always looking for suggestions.

Moving house very soon, repopulating some studio gear, and eventually building out a project studio space. I have Ableton now too, so I can swap projects with a few people, rather than stems.
