Participanthi guys !!
Any advice for mixing levels ? I know it comes a lot with experiance but does anyone got some preferred things you do to make sure you can play out a Tune on a big system without getting too much bass in or to loud drum peaks
would be cool to know how you work to make sure you can bounce a tune out and have it good to go ! ๐
cheers for the answers !! ๐

ParticipantEasy answer: Drum group peaking -6dB, Bass group peaking -6dB and everything else -12dB then +8dB through a limiter at the master.
Probably more helpful answer: Reference!
Put a track you think sounds great into another channel then route it out of your output channels directly so you avoid any processing on your master buss, then use your ears (or a spectrum analyser if you like them) and A/B the two and adjust accordingly ๐
There’s actually a plugin specifically for this that you can load a bunch of tunes into to reference but I’ve completely forgotten what it’s called. -

The first big one was Sample Magic’s Magic AB, and now there are a few. I think the newest is ADPTR Metric AB, and I’ve heard about Melda MCompare, and Mastering the Mix’s REFERENCE. I have Magic AB V2, but I am admittedly bad about AB’ing, down to laziness.

ParticipantYup magic AB is the one! I’m exactly the same to be honest, pretty sure I spent longer trying to get Voxengo SPAN to overlay my mix with another tune than I ever have actually A/Bing lol
