ModeratorI knew Francis Preve’s name was familiar, he was recently on a podcast I listen to (https://soundcloud.com/mattlange/tap-tempo-013-francis-preve), and I had been on his website soon after. His blog is pretty interesting:

Also, he’s really involved in preset design for synths, like Xfer Serum, who he made some of the stock presets for, and did a later pack for (Serum Toolkit Vol. 1). I think his background as a teacher/lecturer is really interesting too.

ModeratorI contacted Francis Preve earlier this week to see if he had any suggestions or ideas for future Lamp Sessions challenges, and he wrote back. Rather than a challenge suggestion, he sent the following:
Here is a technique from one of my classes. I use this to help students experiment with specific tools to better understand how they work.
Set the amp envelope to instant attack and decay, full sustain, and slight release.
From there, select different modulation sources – LFO, envelope, mod wheel, step sequencers, etc – and assign ONE modulator to ONE parameter at a time, then play with the parameters of the modulator, adjust modulation depth, and adjust the destination parameter itself.
Using those variables, itโs easier to understand what each element does.
