anyone knows how to recreate this type of ulterior motive style stab, heard in the intro and throughout the tune (at 2:00:50):

don’t really know how to get that texture. I guess it’s more a case of finding a good sample and processing it ? just like Dom & Roland illustrates in his masterclass at 18:40

i think the basic idea will be somethink like. make semiliar tone in serum, i thnik saw with some unison and little detune can work. second osc make same with octave lower. then add reverb, then distortion, then compressor in multiband mode. ofc if it stab, then make envelope like stab – shorten decay time and if it click, increase attack time.

Hi mate, thanks for your input ! The problem with using just saw oscillators is that it sounds a little too “simple”, even with different sorts of distortion, I can’t quite recreate the complexity of this stab which has a lot of rich harmonics.

Maybe FM synthesis is capable of making such sounds ? I would have to look into it.

yea, saw osc is too simple for this. u can try different osc with this chain or draw ur own osc (adding some noise into osc can be great for harmonics) or add some sound as oscilator.in july samplepack was cool sound in foley folder. maybe u can try FM syntesis inside serum. or u can make chain like reverb, distortion (trash is great), OTT and feed it with random synth or sample and try some layering. most of the hramonics come from this chain, so i think u dont need to use FM. ofc with FM u can make any sound, but serum is much easier. just make stabby sound with this chain and then tweak until u r happy. i belive u can end up with semiliar result 🙂
