    Hi all,
I personally have something started for this challenge, but I haven’t touched the DAW in a few days (VERY strange for me), as my country is burning and hurting. History is happening for the US right now, and it seems to be moving to a global scale.

I would like to respectfully request a delay on this deadline…pushed to next month.

    Respect for you all

My heart is broken right now. Big up SG crew.

There is no mixing phase for me. I mix as I go.

For me, I have found that if I just arrange and then save mixing for later, the end product comes out weaker. Sound selection matters and where it sits in the mix matters. Doesn’t matter if you have the wicked-est riff or lead, if it won’t fit with the rest of the material something is gonna have to give. So I make sure to think about what I am adding and where it will go in the soundstage and freq spectrum as I make.

It’s just easier for me that way, and provides a more coherent final end result.

But everyone is different. This is just where I have landed. For me, the final tune is akin to a painting, and how the paint blends is as important to me as the colors chosen (sounds) or the silhouettes created (arrangement).

And yeah, it held me back from the arrangement part for several years, cuz I would get lost in the tweaking and mixing. But I have focused on it so much that I can now do it in the process of arranging, can get what I want relatively quickly and it doesn’t really bog me down any more.

Ok genie weenies, as promised I have put together the user-submitted sample pack and it can be downloaded from here:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/enavxxmgfg4d4sm/SG_may_2020_challenge_pack.zip?dl=0

This pack includes 156 audio samples and 9 Serum presets, plenty of weaponry to get something grafted and crafted for this challenge.

The guidelines for the challenge are: use this kit to build a tune, either partial or full tune. You can use other samples, synths, etc, I’m not trying to shake up anyone’s work flow too much, but try and lean heavily into this pack to create something AWESOME.

Big up to our sample contributors: Ransom, Fake, Impex, Merkury, and yours truly, the friendly neighborhood Shrike.

btw – some of my presets will require the wavetable I included in the presets folder, and I think you just need to copy the whole folder (called “Massive 3-Analog-Electric – N4N4KI”) to the root of your “tables” Serum directory. If you need help with this just let me know.

MAKE BIG TINGS, big up the quarantine massive!!!!!!

Yes yes I got it, sorry…Shawn I just replied back.

Joppa man just send me any samples you have of yours, they don’t have to be new to you, just new to us!

I have a few more coming in tomorrow (Sunday)…if you are on the fence and watching this space, send me something!

We should end up with a nice phat pack…I will post it up on Monday.

    Just a little check-in:

We’ve got about a week left for sample/sound/preset submission. I hope you are all creating, polishing, and boxing up your little audio treasures for me!

Excited to see what happens on this one, I anticipate one of the greatest SG challenges yet.

    Hit me widdem!

    Ez sg fam

Yes, sorry, I’ve been a little out of it, partially with some quarantine blues, and I also wasn’t sure what we should do next.

    But I am now.

We did this last year, and a partial month should be fine to do it again.

Let’s do another set of sample genie user samples, and I’ll compile and distribute, and for May we will do a user sample pack challenge, where we make tunes with them.

    Dig?

I’ll make a legit forum post for this soon, but for now start gathering your best samples and vst synth presets, and then we’ll hit it…
