I’d say the kick in the second version is actually heavier than the first mix. I prefer the heavier kick, myself, and I think your previous mix (the second one) has a little more edge & clarity to it.
I dig the scifi vibez, and the kick and sub are working pretty well together IME. Swirly atmos helps bolster the whole thing, and the top layer sounds are nice and spacious.
If I had a “could be better”, I would say go through the whole tune once and add more variance/micro-variance. Use the first or second bar of a 16-bar sequence and break things down, then drop in again. Some shuffles, some turnarounds, some beat drops, some one-offs…that kinda thing.
Nice tune!

Nice work all, this is a talented bunch. Excited to start working on the next challenge.

,shrikeParticipantIf you don’t have her consent, you shouldn’t release it, at least not commercially, regardless of legality. Her voice & lyrics are far too recognizable. If they were lathered in fx as to be a new thing, that would be different.
But no, I don’t think it is ok, unless she is on board.

THere is some good stuff in here, esp starting around 1min when it really picks up. I think you could push that low sub fundamental much harder, and then the kick and the snare, but that is mixing stuffs. The groove has some good potential, fairly rolly.
Mind Zero – It’s a nice groove, mixing is a little reserved, I think you could get more out of that lowest note. The whole thing is probably a little too polite for me, which is an extremely subjective thing. Everything is just kind of laid back and small, but I think that is the intent…? Minimal stylee? You always have some great stuff, and the craftsmanship is very apparent. Nicely done.
Harry – I really like that snare. Transient holds up throughout. Also a fairly minimal vibe, which is just not my area of expertise. Everything is well mixed and flows nicely. Fun little side sounds, lots for the ear to “eat”.
Struktcha – welcome to the party…I love the talky wide mid sound that scrapes through every now and then at the drop. I think there is a lot of good stuff, just needs some work on the mix. The drums are a little dry and reserved, I think they could be pushed a little more, to be a little more aggressive. This will sound a little strange, it’s my best way to explain: At the moment they feel like they are “pasted” onto a window ride in the front of the stage, and it might help to give them a little air…maybe a few small reverbs just to give a sense of depth, and then you might try and sat them a little for some more overtones. More volume, and not the “gain” kind of volume, but the space kind.
Balron – dark & intense, even with the mostly minimal elements. That sub is mixed pretty damned well, comes through well in the variety of listening conditions that I applied to it.
My vote is Balron. What can I say, I am a fan.

That’s my wife on vox. Most of this comes from re-sampling NI monark, some from the SG samples.

Only one synth, of the users choosing, and everything must come out of that. No samples. Only 1 synth for drums, pads, atmos, bass, etc.

There have been some issues with a few members on Mac OS. Genie is on it.

,shrikeParticipantNice one. Some very fun musical ideas in here.
I like the vox samples, gives a nice atmos vibe.
Lead bass sound is also interesting, and has the potential to be a heavyweight.
The mix needs some more love. The drums are a little reserved, and with that banger of a lead I would assume that ‘reserved’ is not the goal. I think the snare & kick levels need to come up, maybe some more density with some compression, and the xtransients aren’t really cutting through. Are you gating or compressing your bass with a sidechain timed to the drums? It’s hard to detect it, if so, and I think you could open up those ~35ms moments a little more to let the drums punch through.
Also, your lowend, first fundamental sub freq is only hitting about -6. If you can get that closer to 0, and then mix around that, the track will have quite a bit more punch and body. To help, I will make my usual rec of the greatest (imo) free plugin in a dnb artist’s arsenal: bx subfilter.
https://www.plugin-alliance.com/en/products/bx_subfilter.html
It’s not the right way to do it, but just to get an idea, take that bad boy and just slap it on your entire mix, then set the “tight punch” to 44hz, and listen to the difference it makes. Hopefully that makes you smile. Then go back in and do it the right way by only placing it on the sub, etc etc.
And maybe a Soundcloud account could be useful for you as well, if you don’t have.
I hope that helps. Keep going!
