Better step up yer game, fellas

,shrikeParticipantHear hear, one of the hardest parts about being any kind of artist, music no exception, is the ability to know when and how much to “Kill your children”.
And you had me going for a sec with that Nik/SF/TB story, lol.

,shrikeParticipantAnd I am in…
_-| get to work |-_
,shrikeParticipantSomewhat counter to that, would love to see him working with drum highs/tops, getting them smooth and loud without being overly harsh.

,shrikeParticipantMy email got bounced back for attaching the mp3, so I created and emailed a SC link. Submitted.
Thanks again, Genie

,shrikeParticipantWhen I feel uninspired, I spend at least 4 hours in the DAW, and something always happens to spark me up.
This is a hard-nosed approach, not for everyone…but I know that deep down I want it, and lack of inspiration, to me anyways, is just a disconnect between my desires (heart) and my ideas+abilities (brain).
I live on small wins…and if I can get any kind of win in on any session, that fuels me to return.
Again, not for everyone, but more than anything, I find this works for me. And i should note that for MANY of those four hour sessions, I have absolutely despised the first 1-3 hours. Pissed off, nothing working, not making anything decent, bag of bullshit. But if I stay there, something *always* happens. Small wins.

,shrikeParticipantYup, almost done with mine.
No minute like the last minute!

,shrikeParticipanthell yeah, that’s rad, nice job!

,shrikeParticipantI missed this the first go round (had a bad case of flu about a month-ish ago).
BLESS and mad respect for the one called Optiv, you and C4C were very influential to me, I had many pieces of C4C vinyl back in the day, always an instant purchase.
Rest in piece, the world misses you greatly…

,shrikeParticipantWhat DAW are you in? I usually handle this in live or Bitwig by splitting out freq layers using EQ, and then I distort before or after those eq’s, depending on what I am going for. I use trash all the time, but I don’t use it’s onboard “bells and whistles” like the limiter or multiband very often, for the very reasons you are asking.
It depends on whether it will give me exactly what I want, and if it does great, but if not I sculpt it out using the DAW.
I do rearrange the signal flow a fair amount, as Genie describes in the image he linked to

,shrikeParticipantAlso, if you are on windows, and have an nvidia card with geforce installed…shadowplay is actually much nicer than Windows game bar. Alt+z
_-| get to work |-_
,shrikeParticipant@Clovis if you are on PC, have you tried WinKey+G, to bring up the game bar? It’s meant for gaming, but you can capture the video and audio of any app. You can even grab the previous thirty seconds or so, which is cool…like a DVR for your PC.
I don’t know if it’s viable for an “always on” solution, but it’s handy to know about if yer in a pinch.

,shrikeParticipantThey are including Ana 2 now, which is a beastmaster of a synth.
I say do it. Slate makes good gear.
_-| get to work |-_
,shrikeParticipantI think the general vibe, because of the level of competition, is: as polished as possible.
Master/No-master-only-mix are starting to blur together, I know of many artists who do not “master” in the traditional sense, but the tunes come out polished from mix as though they were mastered”.
Just make it as good as it can be. More than most other genres, dnb is so reliant on engineering that if it falls down in too many engineering linchpins, it will be dismissed.
hope that helps
